I have never been shy in coming forward to criticise the Tory party, but this could have happened to any MP, of any colour. Corruption and dishonesty isn't the sole preserve of the Tories. However, dave should perhaps have taken a firmer line, a lot quicker.

If the Press could be relied on to behave responsibly, then regulation wouldn't be needed. But they have shown a distinct inability to behave with any dignity whatsoever, as the Leveson Enquiry plainly showed. Remember Millie Dowler's pjone hacking ? There is a serious court case on at the moment concerning News Internationals employees. I am a libertarian at heart but the Press Barons should be made accountable, and voluntary regulation has been shown in the past to as effective as a chocolate teapot.

Nothing in this current Maria Miller case would seem to be effected by any regulation in the future. We have the Telegraph to thank for exposing the expenses scandals a few years ago, and again, if sensible press regulation was in place, the paper would still be able to expose future scandals.

but what is to do with regulation is no10 making veiled threats to suppress this public interest story.

Not sure why you are trying but failing to make this a party-political issue Svejk ? The recommendations of the Leveson Enquiry had wide spread cross-party support. I come back to my point.....voluntary regulation by the Press Complaints Commission has proven to be entirely useless. Giving the Press the power to regulate itself is akin to putting Herod in charge child welfare issues.
