Amotriptyline

Please can anyone answer this - is it ok to take amitriptyline as a one off? I used to be on amitriptyline for ibs/anxiety but stopped it due to pregnancy. I was fine during pregnancy but now 8months post partum I am so anxious I feel sick and need something to alleviate this to get through today.

Don't take it without a doctor's advice, climber. The tablets you have now are very likely out of date now, anyway..... but you need to be assessed and they do take several days to kick it. Go and see the doc, just hang on there for today.

I used to take it years ago - good stuff, but not to be treated lightly, IMO.

Have you got something specific to face today or is it just a bad?. Boxtop's advice is of course very sensible and probably correct but if I had been prescribed them in the past and had some in a drawer then in your shoes I probably would take one or two. Even the psychological effect of taking one might alleviate your anxiety until you can get to GP.

You shouldn't take any drugs without consulting your doctor. Go to nearest pharmacy and have a word with the pharmacist, they are great now dealing with folks ailments and worries without seeing a doctor. She/He may offer you an alternative to get you by.

No....I wouldn't take amitriptyline............takes too long to act.

rather than what do you have in the house chick, who do you have in the house ?

Could you get to a chemist (or could someone go for you) to get something like Kalms tablets (if suitable, depending on any other health conditions/meds) which might help you through until you can see a GP and have a chat through everything and they can advise on what might help you now?

I thought the same as Sqad has said, it takes time to build up to work (I used to take them for chronic pain) and, if anything, they may just make you drowsy which may not be ideal with a young baby unless you have someone else around to help out?
