Having aquired a spare monitor, I bought a splitter cable for my PC and now have 2 minitors showing exactly the same image. How do I set them up so that I can use the monitors seperately, ie.a different window on each monitor and the mouse moves across from one screen to the other..thanks

You will need to make a change to your video card settings, right click on the desktop, select properties, then select the settings tab and click on advanced.

If your video card can handle dual outputs there should be a setting in there to configure it, if not you may need to update the driver for your video card.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jen but tried everything in there and can't make the second one operate indepedantly of the first. It can't be a PC prob as it's latest spec with XP media centre edition...any other suggestions very gratefully received

Have a look at this it may help?.

You can't do it with a splitter cable. Both monitors are receiving the same signal from the PC. You need to have two separate monitor ouputs.

yea thanks Skids, I've just about worked that out thanks to good answer from pab's recommended site. I've got no spare PCI slots so it looks like replacing the video card for one with 2 outputs..don't know whether I'll bother, seems a lot of expense and work. i was only trying it because I had 2 monitors and thought I'd give it a go. It was a doddle to do on my laptop
