Why? (computer question)
What reasons can you suggest for a computer running perfectly well - Then today, switch it on and it runs extremely slow, on all applications and programmes? It wont play anything that requires flash player (even though I dont need new software) and even logging in here took a couple of minutes.
No viruses detected, I have ensured pop ups are turned off and there is no problem with the connection?
Internet aside, even opening a word document, for example, is painfully slow. Its a fairly new and quite expensive laptop and I am not computer minded enough to suggest a problem, or solution? Dont want to get somebody out if its a simple problem?

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click on 'Processes'. Apart from 'System Idle Process' (which is likely to show over 90, everything else should either show '00' or something low, such as '02'. If something else is showing a high figure, that's the cause of your problem.

Have you got Windows OneCare or (more likely) Windows Defender on your PC?
It's possible that MsMpEng.exe is your problem (because it's found in those applications). Wait until things grind almost to a halt and take another look at its CPU usage. You might well find that its up in the 90s. (If so, the answer would be to uninstall Windows Defender and to install alternative security software).
Alternatively you might find that Svchost.exe is showing a really high figure. For that you'd need to follow the instructions here:
