i've always wondered where milk got it's name. Is it just a word they came up with, or there a definate history behind it?

It comes from the Old English word milc, which in turn was of ancient Germanic origin. All words were made up by someone originally, but if you mean was this word dreamt up by the milk marketing board or someone, no, it has been around for centuries. Incidentally, you don't need an apostrophe in its name, as it's means it is. And it's definite, not definate.
