Modern Science
51 Answers
We have spoken about so many things, Embryology, astronomy, geology, water cycle, earth, and so many more things. I believe Quran talked about these things before scientists found out in modern time. Then I am told by few that everything Quran talks about was already known to Greeks, Hindus, Chinese and even Pagan Arabs before Muhammad (pbuh).
Now my question is that regardless of who knew before scientists in the modern age but the point is that someone already knew about all these things or had some sort of idea. So what did the modern science do? Apart from verifying what others already knew? I am not a scientist and I know this website has few big names in that field so can anyone list few things that earlier people did not know before the modern science. And I don’t want technical stuff but day to day things that all of us know.

So some scientists at the time happened to be Muslim and have advanced science?
Why is that in the quran? Did Allah tell them the science?(if he did he certainly could've expanded a bit!) or did some men discover it?
Either way what does it prove for you? Does it in some way mean that because a few Mulsim scientists have discovered something that we should all go home and cover our faces and stop drawing Muhammed?
What is your point in showing us this?
and of course even if it all was true you remember saying that our solar system has 10 planets which negates any benefits that your muslim scientist have told us aye?
there either right or wrong about god? Does this mean if they are half right they can be half right about god?
Please come back when you have an actual argument!

The Quran, the Bible, et al . . . all written, in many cases, admittedly, by man, and mostly if not entirely by men, men without the courage to admit to anyone, if themselves, that it was all made up or stolen from a previous thief, second hand glory seekers and/or off the hook . . . shameful in either regard.
And the one who discovered and provided the science, probably tortured on the rack and bound to silence, by threat or punishment of death.
And God didst spake unto Herschel saying, "And if you look right over there, there's Uranus . . . by Jupiter!"

"Waldo – I can understand your point. But did you ever think why Muslims contributed so much towards science after Quran was revealed. Because that is where they got the guidance."
Or is it more to do with an expansion of the Islam states through military might resulting in the asimilation of the then centres of scientific thought, upon which they then built? I know which answer makes more sense to me, especially since...
"When they gave that up or started looking here and there then look at them now."
The decline of the Islamic golden age (and thus their scientific innovatioon) again coincides with military campaigns, this time, going against the Islamic states, which relates to what Jake the Peg was talking about to me. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert in the religious beliefs of scientists, but it's fairly well established that religoius belief tends to decline with education (which is why education is often feared by those of a religious nature). However, this is not to say that there aren't many scientists with a religious faith. Wikipedia contains a list of significant Muslim scientists, many of whom are contemporary: http://en.wikipedia.o..._of_Muslim_scientists
"How many well-known scientists are Muslims?"
How many well-known scientists are there full stop? I would bet that most people would only be able to name a few regardless of what religion they had. I would imagine that the three or four most people could name in Pakistan would be more likely to be Muslim than the three of dour most people in the UK would name.

I think there are a few important questions
Most importantly why are there so few major muslim scientists *now* there were so many really great names 800 -1000 years ago.
but in the last 500 years or so I can hardly think of any
It can't be a matter of money with all that Oil money shoshing about.
Something has changed in the way Islam approaches science
