First 4895 of earnings: No tax
Next 2090: 10% tax = 209
Remaining 14015: 22% tax = 3083.30
National Insurance is not charged on the first 82 per week. (= 4264 per year). Thereafter, it's charged at 11%. 11% of (21000 - 4264) = 1840.96
Total tax and NI deductions (each rounded to nearest pound) = 209 + 3083 + 1841 = 5133
Earnings net of tax = 21000 - 5133 = 15867
If you're paid monthly (i.e. 12 payments per year), this works out at 1322 per month.
For someone paid 4-weekly (i.e. 13 payments per year), this works out at 1220.
Obviously, these figures don't take into account any other, non-statutory deductions, such as any contributions towards a pension scheme.
