Where will it end. I have just received an offer from sports direct offering
90 per cent discount on clothing and footwear. How can they do it and make a profit. I think the old days were best when R.P.M. retail price
maintenance was applied. You could at least save up for an item and when you had saved enough the price would still be the same.
I've never really heard many people complain that a price has been reduced before...
Bigger companies can offer massive discounts and sale prices as they can afford to sell some things at a loss because they make money on other items.
I'm sure most of us have bought things that we really wanted and needed at a good price and wouldn't have been able to afford to buy it at the RRP otherwise.
I don't think all of Sports Direct stuff is the same quality as if you bought the branded stuff elsewhere - I'm not complaining though, you get what you pay for.
its not - the quality is shocking but at the speed i get through swimming cossies, im happy to get them at a fiver for a slazenger one (and i have tried getting more expensive ones - still get through them quickly)
Dont be fooled by all those ' massive savings ' ' price reductions ' ' 1/2 price ' etc etc
They can up the price , for eg - from £100 to £ 130 ( in one store , out of hundreds ) in one part of the country , for a brief perod of time ,then bring it back down to £ 100 and advertise the item in all it's stores as ' massive savings ' etc etc .
At the end of the day - a bargain is only a bargain if you think it's a bargain
The reason why they can discount things so much,is because the RRP is a heavily inflated price. Why on earth would you want to pay such prices when it all ends up in someone's pocket? Shoppers are more savvy now,and do not want merchandise that is over priced. The old days were not better.
Thank you all for your comments. My reason for asking this question was that although I know most people are sensible and aware of this problem, there are a few people who fall for it. I myself find shopping no joy at all when one has to watch the price of things you are buying
