Well still having problems and am wondering what shall I do.

Switch everything on - wait for Power Wireless Brodband. Screen saver comes up and then about 2 hours later icons appear - then finally I am allowed in.

I am now afraid to switch it off at all now. Something is wrong - is it the hard drive or what.

I mean when the blank screen saver is looking at you - nothing to prompt to you anything - just that. Just wondering - what could I do next time - thanks JJCon

Have you posted your 'Hello' ^^^^ from the machine with which you are having problems ?. What operating system are you using (Windows XP, Vista or whatever)?. Why are you ^^ waiting for 'Power Wireless Broadband' ; are you switching off your Router ?. I am sorry, but I Do Not know what you classify as a 'Blank Screen Saver'.

Please give as much information as possible. The more you give the better .

I sincerely wish to try and help you to resolve matters. Please therefore post further.

Yes have posted from Windows XP - when I say blank screen I mean you know a little view on it and no icons - about 4 hours later I look and the icons are on it - although yesterday even though icons were on it - would not let me click on it . - As I say if you have not techie info don't know whether to turn. I am having a think but am Not sure that I will come-up with an answer.

Do you have an Anti Virus programme along with one for detecting malware.

If so, have you scanned your comp for virus and/or malware ?.

I'll look in again later this afternoon.

Hans I scanned I think on Friday night and in the middle of the scan - system jammed again.
You say you did a scan which I must assume was an Anti Virus programme.

If you have Not done a scan for malware, I suggest you download the free edition of Malwarebytes and run it through as soon as possible.....do Not agree to take a trial run of the 'premium' it's not necessary and you only need to do a 'quick scan' which can take up to 20miutes or more; a full scan could take hours and is pointless at this stage. Click to download file and then run to install the programme for immediate use. :-

Hi Hans - well I scanned - I did have malaware on my desktop - done a quick scan and had 663 errors. Had to restart etc but icons are very slow still in coming up but am not worried as at least they are. Also MSE pops too saying my computer is at risk. I am happy what I have at the moment. JJCon.
Hi to you jennyjoan.....It may sound ridiculous, but I am pleased that you have found malware; it means I am on the right track.:-)

I would suggest that you do further scans. It's a bit like vacuuming a room; because the second time, a few hrs later, you will still find dirt and dust which wasn't picked-up on the first going over.

Incidentally, I have noted that you are operating with XP. Consequently I say, "Keep it going as long as you can. XP was possible the best that came from Microsoft and providing you have Anti Virus and Malware protection, the operating system could outlast your computer, which possibly has a few years to go before it packs in completely. 30% of Computers throughout the world are still operating on XP....a lot of Businesses are dependent upon the system; hence the reason for MSE support having been extended to July 2015.

Keep posting.

An outside possibility - is the anti-virus set to do a boot-time scan every time? Something like that would result in a long delay before the computer is usable.

@jennyjoan.....Please answer methyl who has far more knowledge on Technical matters than I have. The icon for which you should be looking is, as has been said, near the clock at right hand bottom corner of your screen and looks like :-

for attention of Methyl - the symbol is RED - I have been trying since last night to even give a full scan - MSE pops and says something like this will not work for this app - don't remember the full wording. I was prepared to leave the computer on all night. However, after about two hours in which I was in bed I looked at computer and MSE wouldn't allow the scan to go any further as it had jammed. So I could not do anything but switch it off again. I am just lucky to get this message through to you. Thanks for any contribution JJCOn. Don't really know what to do next.

Methyl and Hans - Well have deleted MSEssentials off Control Panel and uninstalled it as I couldn't get it to turn green. I have installed AVG which I have had before. However in Control Panel there are for example ten Microsoft Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2, 3.0 Service Pack 3 etc. Shall I remove these or leave them - many thanks for your help JJCon
I think you have been wise to remove MSE because it was possibly corrupted and would have been incapable of being up-dated.

Now that you have installed AVG, have you done a scan with it.? If so, what were the results.? Also, have you done a further scan with Malwarebytes.?

As regards MS Net Framework, I am hoping that Methyl will advise on it. I know that it could be required for some applications on your computer and it might be safe to remove all but the most recent edition. I don't feel I need it on my computer and have completely removed it. Anyway it will Not do any harm if left in situ, apart from occupying what could be valuable space.
