Invisable Friend

Is it possible for a 2yrs 6mnths child to have an invisable friend? My daughter keeps talking about someone called George. We don't know anyone called George so don't know were its come from. She said he was in the bath with her. Please help

Yeah that's all fine one of my kids had an imaginary friend called of all things "Whirrr"??!! He used to accompany everywhere pretty much, on holiday, bathtime, riding, and his presence only fizzled out when my little one got to about 6.He's still mentioned now ocasionally teasingly if something gets moved, or drawn on or lost as historically he always had the blame for that sort of thing. I wouldn't worry about it at all, it's not a sign of anything wrong and will disappear of it's own volition when your child is ready.

i would probably think that her imagination is kicking in big time. My daughter started having imaginary everything at that age! From imaginary chocolate to imaginary friends and she even made cooked me an imaginary christmas cake this morning! lol. The name she may well have picked up from something on the tv without you realising. My daughter is now 3 and just started nursery and she comes home now and plays imaginary nursery. I wouldnt worry too much about it, I think its normal but if it concerns you too much I would speak to your health visitor.

My daughter turned 2 last week, and from about 2 months ago, starting talking about a boy. She keeps running to a boy, at the side of our house (obviously no one is there) But I had an imaginary friend at her age, so I'm trying not to worry too much about it.

My house is only 4 years old, so don't think its ghostly ha ha.

Thanks mind at rest i just wasn't sure thought she was a bit young! She has been makin imaginary tea, toast etc for a while.But past week its been George this George that. But you would think she would make up a name. Don't know where George has come from?

If you are still unsure ask her what he is wearing - a friend of mine did this and her 3 year old told her that her friend was wearing clothes that sounded very dated (eg bloomers, long skirt etc). Turned out someone had died in the house many decades before! Didnt do her any harm.

She moved so cant tell you what happened in the end.

My daughter (now 11) had up until the age of about 7 a Chinese family that lived under her bed, there were 6 in total and each had a name, you could ask her the Mummy's name etc and her answers never differed. She used to tell me all sorts of things about them and very accurately told me how they were dressed etc. One day she told me they were moving to play with a little boy. She never mentioned them again, although we do on occasions.

Interestingly enough she used to talk about the foods they ate, these were never the popular Chinese foods that we buy from take aways etc, she once told me they ate boiled eggs with birds inside and hens feet, I have since then ( having discovered Google) found out that these are actual delicacies, enjoyed in the far east, she first mentioned the eggs when she was about 3 years old.

My mum tells me that I had an imaginary brother & sister (Paul & Custard?!?!) from about the same age as your daughter and she used to have to sit a place at the dinner table for them, ask them what they wanted to eat/drink etc. It continued until I went to playschool at 3 & made friends who took my mind off it.

It is probably only the sign of a good imagination & you will find that she has great creativity skills late in life.

I had an imaginary friend called Gary - the name came from the son of a friend of my mothers, but my imaginary Gary was about 1 inch high and wore a blue and white tam o shanter hat! George is probably a name she has heard somewhere, and liked the sound of and chose as the name for her new made up friend.

I had an imaginary/invisible friend when I was three and she was always causing trouble. I was, of course, as good as gold.

My daughter had an imaginary friend for three months she even set a plate at the table for him ... and covered her self up in the bath with a flannell , dont worry it will pass ...

She sent him on holiday because he was spoiling her felt tips !!!!

Get her to mix at play group and invite playmates round to help her mix ...

Hi guys thanks so much to you all for your help! Its beginning to be quite funny poor George is gettin the blame for everything at the moment. When she gets into trouble she shouts at George for it. Its hard not to laugh but you can't help it.

Wow those stories are wild. My boyfriend now 26, had two imaginary friends when he was about 2 or 3 and knew the first and last names of them, as well as how they dressed (very mafioso italian like), he had them for quite some time, and then they eventually died strange deaths. One was killed in a fire, and I think the other was shot. They were both in their mid 60's! My boyfriends family is from Italy. Its very interesting, and I can't help laughing! Great stories!
