I recently went to see the new Pierce Brosnan film, "Matador", which looked kind of unusual - and it certainly was..!! He plays a very seedy, down-at-heel hit-man on the verge of a breakdown, who befriends a decent, honest businessman one night in a hotel bar...!! To be truthful, I found the plot itself very unlikely, of course, and less than involving - but the good side was seeing a masterful actor working very hard to play a very different part to his more usual roles. It's a bit of a slow-burner with not much in the way of pace - but it's always fascinating to watch a fine actor playing completely against type, and very few Hollywood favourites actually have the courage in their careers to even attempt it. His two main supporting actors were wonderful too, and all in all I'm glad I spent the time and money giving it a chance. But I urge you... just please DON'T go if you want to see Mr B as another smooth, capable, heart-throb James Bond type, because if you do, you'll be VERY disappointed..!! :o)
Thanks TommyC I have seen a trailer for that film and I thought I might enjoy that one. I think when an actor is acting against typecast, they need to work harder to be credible. I cannot enjoy films with Meryl Streep, yet I know she is classed as a talented actress by the film critics in serious roles she seems to have only a couple of facial expressions in her repertoire, sad and sadder.
