Why is it so difficult to transfer photographs from mobiles to a computer? I'm asking this because my son has a Sanyo S750i and for some reason this mobile will not download. We've tried putting the SD card into my universal card reader but it just doesn't want to know. He seems to think it's because he didn't format the card before snapping. Now he's stuck with a phone load of valuable pictures going nowhere, so any help will be very very welcome.

Are the photos definately stored on the memory card and not the phones own internal memory? Worth checking. If not you should be able to move them to the card then on to your computer. OR... if the phone has email facility email them to your own account. OR... mms (picture mesage) them to an email account or another mobile then transefer them to your pc.

Yes you're right matt, they are on the internal memory. Sorry I should have put that. Is it possible to transfer them to the card? Looking on the web for the answer I have seen 'dongle' mentioned, but that's getting a bit too complicated.

I've got a sony w800i and when i highlight a picture stored on the internal memory, i click 'more', then 'manage files' and then either 'copy to external memory' or 'move to external memory' (depending on which you want to do). I'd imagine your son's phone would have something similar if you check the options.

Regarding the 'dongle' - this is just something you plug into your computer's usb port which will allow you to transfer pictures by bluetooth. If you have a cable with the phone, in my opinion its just easier to use it instead.

Thank you Pat, I feel we're on the right track now. Just one more thing - you said ' copy to external memory' now, would that mean the SD card?
yes it would. Internal memory is normally the memory that the phone uses for day to day stuff like telephone numbers and text messages, external memory is normally much larger and used for photos, songs etc. It can also be removed and put in other devices such as other peoples phones or prnting equiptment such as they have in Boots. Once you've got the photo's on the external memory you could take it to Boots and print them off if you havent got a printer at home.

Thank you Mac for your clear explanation - very much appreciated. Boots is something else I hadn't considered they will probably do a better job of printing these photos. Many thanks.
