Why is it that when you go to the theatre the people who have seats in the centre of the row always take their seats last making everyone else in the row stand up.

During the interval the Mayor and bigwigs went to their private room for drinks....too many I think.
The performance had restarted and was quite some time into a very quiet monologue when they noisily returned....so noisily the performer had to be stopped while they casually took their seats...laughing and not a bit bothered.
People still remember when Gness had had enough and silenced a theatre by giving the Mayor a telling off for his rudeness...

This also annoyingly happens at football matches.
Being tall I used to book a seat on the end of a row to give myself more legroom. Many times latecomers turn up as the game kicks off or even a few minutes into the game.
Same thing also tends to happen as half-time approaches when the same people who were late for the game leave their seats while the game is still going on so that they can get their half-time pie and cup tea
.......and guess what? Yes, they are again late returning to their seats as the second-half begins

Not me Tissy, I'd die of embarrassment if I were late for the theatre. OH is the same and we both arrive everywhere at least half an hour early!
In our theatre we give the Mayor the three minute warning at the 10 minute call because the VIP groups are notoriously slow! And show wouldn't start until the bar and function room is clear as there is nothing worse than the great and the good disturbing the genuine theatregoers.
