Old reel to reel recordings.
I made some reel to reel recordings of my daughter when she was a baby in the early 1960's.
Is there any way I can transfer the recordings onto modern day cassette tapes?
I don't have the original equipment.
Thanks to everyone who answered all my previous questions.

Since you don't have the original unit the tapes were recorded on, i would look for the most versatile one with at least the following characteristics, to hopefully cope with nearly anything you throw at it:
-3 tape speeds: 1 7/8, 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 i.p.s. were the common domestic standards.
-4 tracks. look for a switch marked 'track selector' or 1-4, 3-2 .
-Phono sockets or a headphone jack to enable you to connect it to a hi fi sytem's or PC's line input for copying.
finally, how big are your spools (in diameter)? you may need a player which will take up to 7 inch reels, many machines only took up to 5 3/4 inches.
you should be able to pick up a working mono machine with the above features for well under 50 notes. I think something like a Tandberg series 15 (4 track model !) would be perfect, as it has all the above.
hope this helps! let us know how you get on.
