Reckon you would be cheaper to simply buy a kindle, unless you want a daily mail subscription. I have a kindle fire and it's great

I have kindle fire....but it works out £119 for subscription as opposed to £360 to buy paper....only thing is, I would need to print off crossies and unsure if that's at all possible.?
IWe subscribed to the free kindle hd offer believing that the plus version was the same as the printed version.

It is not.

There is no option to print off the crosswords/puzzles eg the daily mail cryptic crossword. All answers are done via screen with options to pause, restart, display answer.

There are no mail reward numbers as there are on the printed version.
There are also no tokens so if you wish to enter/collect tokens then there are none.

The weekend mag doesn't contain the puzzles as in the printed version nor does it have a 7-day tv guide.

Similarly for the MoS.

The paper itself is easy to read with each article appearing to be a separate 'page' eg, today's paper had around 178 pages.

The contents are split into sections so you can just read all the way through are skip to the sections tha you are interested in, eg money mail, health, sport etc.

Yes there is a significant saving to be made but you soon start to miss the little things .. we have complained to the Mail that the version we are getting is not the same as the printed version but they just disregard that when they eventually condescend to reply.

There is nothing stated any where that the version you get downloaded is different to the printed version.

We based our decision not only on price but what we read on this link ..
http://mailonline.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx ..
especially the bit starting 'subscribe ..'.

Also, if you already have a tablet, look at the subscription rates shown on that link.

I find it difficult to believe they have different e-versions of the paper so that statement is very misleading.

We have only had this for a couple of weeks and look forward in the hope that the next 50 weeks go just as quickly.

As for the kindle .. it is easy to use and there are various write-ups giving more info but the 2 things to remember :

1. keep the brightness down as much as possible else the battery drains real quick
2. I'm finding that i'm having to re-synch the download to ensure all the words are visible on a page .. no big deal but can be irritating.

If I think of anything I've missed, I'll add further comments.

Just a short update.

We've now had the Kindle for 5 months and most of the comments previously still apply but ..

. the cryptic crossword is now a prize one .. it's the same as the paper version except that you only have that day to complete it.

. occasionally, when doing some of the puzzles mainly kenken, kakuro, hidato, the selection/entering of numbers 'slows' considerably. Sometimes, it just re-boots, others it best to re-boot.

. if doing a puzzle like kakuro where you enter a lot options in each square, there have been many very frustrating occasions when i've wanted a break so have 'paused' the puzzle and on returning all the 'pencil-entered' options have been wiped !!

. the kindle has been ultra locked-down and you can only install apps from the amazon play store in the normal way of installing apps.
For the techies, it is possible to install apps if you have the apps .apk file. Instructions can be found using google. (as soon as the 12 months are up, i plan to root the device so that i can use it in a way it's meant to be used). It is also likely that we will re-subscribe but prob not til after Christmas in the hope that they repeat an offer i saw early this year for about £60 .. that would be some saving if repeated.
