I have a tad short of fourteen thousand messages in the inbox of my I-Pad Air, is there a way I can delete them in one fowl-swoop (or is that foul -swoop?) rather than having to highlight them individually - I know I can select multiple messages but I still have to select them individually.

Any suggestions?

After a bit of googling, the only sure way of deleting all of your IMAP emails in one go, Inquisition, seems to be to forget about the email app and access your mail on your provider's website, which should offer the facility that you're seeking.

It is going to depend on how you have asked your email server to work with your other devices (pads, Phones etc.).Did you ask it to delete mails after to sent them to your tablet etc.

Hi Ink.......I am sorry that my knowledge of iPads is in effect zero and therefore I am unable to make a suggestion. However, I am curious to know how it is that you have such a mammoth amount of messages within your in-box. Fourteen thousand is something like 4 a day over a period of 10yrs.
However, as Ipad Air was released in November 2013, it means that you have had an in-put of approximately ( over the 6 month period) of at least 75 per day. (That is if my calculator battery does not need replacing)

In the Mail app there is an 'edit' button at the top of the message column, when pressed it gives the option to 'mark all' which gives the option to 'tag', when you have 'tagged' all of your messages the option 'trash' appears and you can guess what comes next :-)

Hans off topic a bit but I receive at least 20 emails a day at work. It's not that unusual.

I agree with Fitzer. There Is an Edit button, top right of your messages on my IPad 7. Tap on it and the option to Mark All comes up at the bottom left of the messages.

Mark the ones you want to delete or all of them and then select, Trash.

Tried it again,fitzer,works on Individual,but not Bulk Emails,which is what the OP is asking.

Everhelpful, I stand corrected.

I have just checked the All Mailboxes on my IOS7, if you tap Edit and then Mark All, you just get the option to Mark as Unread or to Flag them.

However, if you tap Edit, then tap one of your emails and then go to Mark, the option to Move To Junk, comes up.

Apologies for leading people up the garden path, I had assumed that when you did a 'mark all' that you could then take the delete option :-( I have, however found an instruction which claims to do as required and have tested it as far as the multiple selection thing, as mentioned it does look like it's hanging up when select lots of msgs and I don't have anywhere near 14000, http://www.conferencesthatwork.com/index.php/technology/2014/01/how-to-delete-all-mail-messages-from-iphoneipad-in-one-step/ try at your own risk, read the comment about not trying to do too many at once

Thank you all for the advice, I haven't had time to try all, Fitzer's seemed simplistic but it didn't work, hey ho!
Hans, I inherited the emails from my old I-pad so old it preceded iPad 1. I will advise if I have any success from the others.
