The phone blocking provider. I also have caller display. I have to answer all calls because people ring me about visits. Example district nurse, phisio therapist etc the list goes on. They all with hold their number so all calls must be answered.
Today I've had 11 calls. 2 were relevant the other 9 were, new kitchen, solar panels, computer virus and many more. They all knew my name. Is there any way to stop this. I have asked the people who need to ring not to with hold their number but they all say it is built in to their work phone.

poor you. wish I could think of a solution for you.

I keep getting calls from sub-continent telling me they have had lots of reports about my windows and offering to fix things for me. I tell them that I've got enough windows thank you and don't need any more.

Hi Jeza... I am unable to offer you a suggestion but I am taking the liberty in your thread of offering a bit of advice to lady_janine.

If you get calls about Windows, tell them that you have already contracted to have your present double glazing replaced with triple glazed units.

Hans.

I was registered with the TPS for my old address. The premise being that once you are registered,it is illegal for a firm to "cold call" and therefore subject possibly for some sort of investigation if they are reported on a large scale. Calls dropped initially, but after a while they began again. I would immeadiately tell the "voice" that i was registered with the TPS and that it was illegal for them to call. I would then ask for their name and the name of their supervisor, everytime without fail, they would put the phone down on me! Calls stopped again quite quickly! Always challenge those illegal calls!! You have enough on your hands from what i gather. Good luck x

lol methyl they know their legal limits!
Can I suggest that you change the default number that you give out to important people, to a Mobile ? I have had this problem for over two years and now keep my home phone permanently "off the hook" It took a while for people who I want to call me to change their habits, but it seems to have worked.
By the way, the TPS is next to useless. British nuisance callers simply ignore the TPS and callers from abroad are not bound by it. It may reduce the incidents a bit but not really in any way that you will find helpful.
hans - thanks for the advice. they do preface the word windows with Microsoft but I just do my mis hearing act.

mikey - a good idea if you have mobile reception. also possibly jeza requires a more speedy solution to her problem of having to jump up and constantly answer the phone.
i now have my mobile turned off because of these calls, all the people i have given the number to say they never give it out

a person has started an e petition to stop cold calls and door knockers

Do you actually need a housephone?

I've done away with mine altogether and rely purely on mobiles, and it's miles better, the only people who now ring are from people I actually want to hear from.
boo - that's all fine and good but some places in this country do not have a signal.
Well yes, that's why I asked if she needed the housephone Lady J :-)
I very rarely get these types of calls on my landline but I get them a lot on my mobile. They are either to do with PPI or Virgin trying to get to sign up for their mobile service. The other one I have been getting a lot lately is a recorded message which I cut off before I know what its about.
there could be some reason like mine as i'm sure jeza has considered it. I now wait by the phone to hear someone speak before I pick up.
