Application Form Question.

I have filled in an application form for a job and on the form one of the questions is:-

"WHAT IS THE MINIMUM WAGE THAT YOU WILL ACCEPT?"

What do you think about this question?

I always put what I am on now. That way you are letting them know what you are at least comfortable on (or I am at least)

Sounds to me like they are a bit tight - i am an employer, i pay people what they and the job are worth, not the least i can get away with.

If you pay peanuts , you get monkeys.

Be realistic, but tell them what you are worth.

Is it an agency? If it is they'll just ignore any potential jobs for you under a certain wage.

Otherwise put what you expect to be paid, don't undercut yourself ^_^

I personally think this is a pretty unacceptable question which suggests that the company wants to screw its employees. I certainly wouldn't put anything less than your current salary, but would be tempted to write one of the following:

"What is the minimum standard of skill you would be prepared to accept?"

"A competitive market salary which recognises my worth as a competent employee.

"I have never encounted this question on an application form and wonder whether it is the company's policy always to pay the minimum rates they can get away with."

You may not get invited to an interview but do you really want to work for an organisation who doesn't recognise the worth of its employees.
