me - the towel rail in the bathroom has come off the bracket things again. have we got any longer little screws?
OH - if you didn't put towels on it, it wouldn't fall off.
- could you repeat that please?
- if you didn't put towels on it, it wouldn't fall off.
- it's a towel rail.
- it only falls off when you put towels on it. put them somewhere else.
- it's a towel rail. where else?
- on the radiator or even the floor. you choose.
- I want to use the towel rail.
- it'll only fall off the brackets again.
Drill out original holes with 9mm HS drill. Get some 9mm dowel & cut it to length (depth of floor board). Put some glue in the holes & knock dowels into them. Allow glue to set, drill pilot holes in dowels then screw towel rail to floor.
I like doing things with drills and hammers and screwdrivers. The problem is, no one has ever taught me how to do things properly. Therefore, when I do things, I make a complete mess of it because no one has shown me how.
Lady-j. You could try putting a couple of matchsticks in the holes before re-screwing to give a firmer grip. If you have no matchsticks a few wooden cocktail sticks would do. Cut them off at door level before screwing.
thanks for all the advice but there is nothing wrong with the brackets fixed to the door. they are very secure. the problem lies with the length of the screws which attach the knob-like thing to the brackets. screws cannot be any fatter or they will not go through holes in the knob things neither should they be too long or they will hit the back face of the brackets.
have put the towel rail up again now but no doubt it will fall down again when I put a towel on it.
