Name Of A Old Movie About A Mid Life Crisis Guy Who Robs His Bank

Hi, This has been driving me nuts for years now. I remember seeing this movie, probably on BBC2 late night, when I was a child in the 1980's.
It was about a man who works for a bank. He's fed-up with this work and his marriage is dull etc etc. I can't quite remember the order of things but he invents an alter ego that speaks a different accent (- german?). The alter ego is what the guy isn't, ruthless etc. He visits a prostitute to learn how to be a great lover and so forth. I think he ends up robbing the bank that he works for in some clever way. His wife falls for the alter ego he's invented to rob the bank. In the end she won't believe that he is actually his alter ego and that's he's robbed the bank, so he end's up with his wife but as his alter ego. The movie probably dates from the 60-70's and I can't remember is it was European or american.
If anyone has any idea I'd love to find the film title. Cheers, Jonny

This is bugging me now too :-) I can't find it, but have a look on this link that lists loads of specifically 'bank robbery' films and see if you can spot what you are looking for?
