Sudden Throbbing Pain At The End Of My Right Big Toe

Started last evening and was very sudden and painful - last about 20 mins and then faded. Started again during the night and woke me up! Again subsided after about 20 mins and a couple of ibruprofen! Feels 'sore' today and again painful for short periods of time - throbbing like mad at the moment.
I haven't trodden on anything unusual as I never walk around barefooted or incurred an injury - help !

It must be catching. i had that pain in my left big toe last night. no kidding.
Really hurt for about an hour or so, then vanished. How weird.

I thought Gout too. Worth checking your toenails though too to make sure is isn't ingrowing as that can be really painful, especially if you knock it (like turning in the night and such).

ha ha puzzle I did the same! my OH suffers with gout and it is extremely painful. It sounds very similar so could be gout.

My boss at work thought that he had hurt his toe kicked his shed (I never asked why) but it was gout. He went on medication and it improved vastly.

My son in law is a gout sufferer but from the description he gives it doesn''t sound quite like my problem. He's on lifelong medication!

I had similar symptoms Ibruprofen didn't help, I was desperate for some sleep and pain relief so off to the GP who said it "probably" was gout. She prescribed Naproxen {inflammatory} and Cocodamol for the pain. So for the past 2 weeks I can get some night's sleep, I loathe taking tablets, but I have to get further repeat prescriptions.

I've got some co-codymol that was prescribed a couple of weeks ago for my back problem so I might try some tonight - the back problem is now ok so I stopped taking them.

Can't think of a better diagnosis than.....gout.

If you go down the Ibuprofen route, then take adequate dosage.

Update...... pain cycles lasted 24 hours and nothing since! Weird !
