....how did it go at the Vet's yesterday? Hope all's well.

I was going to let you know and thanks for thinking of me. Well the vet found a lump in his tummy (the cat's, not his own!) which he wasn't very happy about. He thinks it means a very bad outcome for Ollie, maybe only a few weeks. He would have put him down there and then, but apart from the fact I wasn't ready, I'd already told the kids that I thought the vet would be happy with him as he seemed better. He offered me an ultrasound to have a look at the lump, but I feel at his age I would rather just have him at home to have his last days/ weeks or whatever it is curled up by the fire dreaming of a big juicy mouse. i hope I've done the right thing!

Its a hard decision to make,I think he'll let you know when he's ready,i've been there with one of our dogs,we knew when it was time!!!

enjoy what time you have left together as long as hes eating and drinking then just take one day at a time x

Morning lizzwizz & all - I think it's nice for Ollie to be able to spend the last few weeks of his life in the comfort of his own home, with you & your family.

When our Smudge was diagnosed with cancer of the knee, we had the option of her either having her leg amputated, or letting her spend her last days at home with us. As she was 13 years of age, we chose the latter & we're glad we did.

We were all there with her at the end & have wonderful memories of her.

Lizz, sorry about the outcome but as least it gives you all time to come to terms with what has to happen. Just keep an eye on him and if he appears to be suffering, steel yourself to bite the bullet earlier than you had intended. Meanwhile, enjoy every moment of still having him with you.

Smudge,that was our dilemma too,our rottie could've had her leg amputated but at the age of 11 we didn't think it fair on her so we had some time with her then had her put to sleep,kinder all round,she had bonecancer!!!!!

Thanks for that. I needed some reassurance that I had done the right thing, as the vet made me feel a bit guilty for not accepting an ultrasound. We'll keep a close eye on him and at least now we have a bit of time to get used to the idea. He seems to be fairly content at the mo, eating, drinking and going out for a little walk every so often, so whilst he's making the most of life we'll hang on. Its still not going to be easy at the end though, so thanks for all your lovely supportive messages.

Lizwizz, First of all im so sorry to hear that outcome. What did you mean by " the cats not his own" ? Did the vet tell you wheather or not the kitty is suffering ? I sure hope he is comfortable.
