Hi Has Anyone Any Advice To Help Sore Cracked And Inflamed Lips And Mouth Area
15 Answers
I have excema normally only on hands but am experiencing very sore cracked lips and mouth area, saw Dr some while ago who prescribed emuvate and fucidin creams, neither of which have helped. Use unperfumed creams and lip salve but nothing seems to help. Look a total mess now ...lips are so sore and itchy, would really appreciate any suggestions?

Don't be put off by the cold sore thing, I've never had one but use it for very sore dry lips.

I do sympathise. i suffer with eczema and also sometimes get cracks in the corner of my mouth which make me self conscious. I tried a few things and nothing cleared it up. In the end I bought Boots lip and cold sore relief cream (it comes in a small tube) and it cleared it up within a few days. I wasn't convinced it was going to work as I am pretty sure I didn't have a cold sore, but it seemed to do the trick.
Thanks again everyone , have bought some goodies from boots as suggested so hope it does the trick. Fairly certain it's not impetigo as I have seen that before on others, also Dr did give me some fucidin just in case because I mentioned I had horses and dogs, (neither of which are unclean. )Sadly,I have since lost my dog. Mine is more of an allergy thing . I had a fairly long standing problem with a dentist last autumn which resulted in lots of time in the dentist chair trying to repair the damage he caused plus several courses of antibiotics plus a realisation I'm allergic to latex gloves! Plus I lost a close family member a few months ago.So all in all I think my body is reacting in the usual way eg through my skin. Also I did some creosoting a couple of weeks ago ,although I did cover every part of me, I expect that didn't help either. Oh well just have to put up with the embarrassing situation until I can get back to the docs. x
Could something you're eating be irritating your mouth? I remember when I had pre-op allergy testing they tested for latex - I'm not but came out with a number of other allergies I didn't know about!
I think there are certain foods which, if you are allergic to latex, you could also be sensitive too. I can't remember which ones now, maybe kiwi/cherry, something like that? I have oral allergies so get reactions in my mouth and sometimes get wheezy from certain things.

Many thanks to all of you who took the time to help and advise. I've added this as a warning to others who may be in the same situation with their skin. I have had appointments with two different doctors at my surgery , the first took a quick look and said yes just excema carry with the emuvate (steroid cream) on your face , I questioned him on this as I wasn't keen on using in the first place. He replied its fine you can use for a month without a break , no problem! Anyway did I was told and ended up looking as if I had snogged a sink plunger , the whole of the area around my mouth and nose was a red raw itchy blistered mess. Plus associated rash around my neck and forearms which have never been affected before..Cue another visit to the surgey, luckily to a lady this time who immediately saw this was not eczema but a different type of dermatitis called peri oral which...yes you've guessed is caused by use of steroid creams!! It has other causes as well of course but none that related to me. Now I am using a non steroid cream & am on a very long course of antibiotics which have caused a different type of 'hive ' spots & itches! It was so bad I had to have nearly a week off work which is unheard of ! Apparently there is no quick fix , this could take months if not years to finally clear, in the meantime cannot use anything on my face at all & only wash with plain water. So please anyone with the same symptoms take care & seek the correct advise.
