Dont get me wrong, they have a disaster and it is terrible, but to give our sandbags away from an area that will undoubtedly flood again, isn't that a little daft?

As regards our own need, we are an island and therefore surrounded mostly by sand, so I would have thought we shouldn't have any difficulty in getting some more if we need it in the future. If we had problems with a scarcity of sand a few months ago, that was probably caused by a lack of organisation, rather than any lack of sand.
Didn't Somerset borrow some super big pumps from Holland ?
Shouldn't we all be able to help each other out when disasters strike ? I was talking to an elderly ex-NUM official in Aberfan last year, and he told me that the Disaster Fund had money coming in all over the world. He remembered opening an airmail letter from Canada, just addressed to the "Miners, Aberfan" and it had $100 dollars Canadian in it, and he didn't know what to do with this cash !
