Does Anyone Have A Robot?
14 Answers
Does anyone have a robot vacuum cleaner? I am thinking about buying one but am not sure how intelligent they are. It will have to double as a cat entertainer so I don't want it to be to noisy.
This review site looks good but I would prefer to have some input from someone who has one.

(I can guarantee that none of them could cope with the clutter in my house. There are large areas of carpet that I've not even seen for over a decade, yet alone vacuumed!)

Chris - I'll check it all out when I am more awake. I don't 'need' one but I have decided that I 'want' one. That would be like my last purchase - a soup maker and before that an ice making machine and the list goes on and on ...
Arksided - Pete appears on TV am Ireland weekly and he has taken Spin the cat in. He is more like a dog - he seems to enjoy being there.

Wolf, I can actually answer the question as we do have a robot vacuum cleaner(Roomba model). We just use it for our living room as that gets grubbiest apart from the kitchen which is just a quick and simple sweep. The robot is quite effective, we simply put all the floor clutter on the sofas(this isn't necessary but makes for a quicker and better job) and let the beast (cerberus)loose. It is very thorough, it remembers the layout of the room after a few passes so only bumps carefully into the fixtures, it covers the floor about four times and cleans under the sofas and when the battery is low it goes back to it's recharging point under an armchair.. No human would be as thorough, it misses nothing. It is really a matter of whether you think it is worth the money. It is a great boon when we have surprise guests as it can be left to do the cleaning whilst we get on with the food and drink preparation.
jomifl - your robot seems to be doing exactly what I want mine to do. It can wander around the house and I can feel like I am doing some housework. Clutter is my problem. Scratch poles take up a bit of the living room floor. Then there are the Cat Caves (boxes) under the coffee table. Thanks for your input.
Mikey - one of my cats would build up the courage to go for a ride on a robot but his sister would probably see it, scream and run away.
Chris - how are the little monsters?

We have a Roomba.
Naturally you need to replace the brushes, and over the years we've also replaced the battery.
Every so often (once or twice a year) he gets his inside cleaned out as dirt does get in.
If you use the Lighthouses/Virtual Walls you can restrict where he goes.
One downside - I decided to clean the car boot only to find he would not go because the carpet was black - so it was tricking all his cliff sensors into thinking he would fall if he moved!
