Mm And Km Links May 2014 Week [5]
5 Answers
Just to remind you that the two Links Games will be played out here in Q&P over the weekend. As this is the final weekend of the month, that means championships are at stake.
First to kick off is the KM Game. posted by Seekeerz from Australia but it runs in UK time from early on Saturday to midnight Sunday. That version is based on The Daily Telegraph GK Crosswords and you have to guess what Saturday's shaded clues are going to be paired with in Monday's 'Herculis' crossword. Equal chance of points all weekend. Game closes midnight Sunday. Results posted by seekeerz early Monday morning.
Seekeerz will post the 4 clues (and answers) in Q&P soon after they become available on the Telegraph website.
The MM Links will be set for the final time by 'King Cliffyg'. His introduction will appear at 8:45 to give you 15 minutes to mull over it, and then the challenge will be posted at 9:00. Early play gives the best chance of bonus points in this version of the game.
Looking to the future:
I have received a suggestion that I said I would air on here (I'll repeat it in the 'Results' thread on Sunday).
As you are all aware by now, I will cease overseeing the MM Game game as from the end of June (KM Version continues as usual).
The suggestion is that each month, the setter also takes on the scoring and reporting for that month. At the end of the month, that would all pass over to the new setter.
Could it work? Will players be able/prepared to take it on?
Disadvantages: It would mean there would be no back-up in case of internet connection problems or any other emergency. There would be no help available to advise on links or assist with IT skills.
Think about it. There is still a month for someone to come forward and take it on. You don't want it all to end without a fight?
Whatever happens, come the end of June, my coat goes on the nearest hanger.
In 'The Shrubbery, spring is well advanced, the plants are doing well and everywhere you look, there are baby birds both in the trees and on the ground.
Did you know that a bird’s eyes takes up about 50 percent of its head? True!
And do you know that the fastest swimming bird in the world is Gentoo Penguin! but sadly, I'm out of practice.
This will be your final chance of points for May
Be sure to be there for this tomorrow:
Until then,
Happy Linking,
gen2

Also he/she might not realise until it was too late that it was his/her turn. And it's always been very useful to know that you were there to step in in case of problems, technical or otherwise, as well as to advise if the projected link words might not be suitable. In theory I'd be prepared to have at go at the scoring if I were setter again myself, but the timings wouldn't be the same as yours and I guess that there wouldn't be any continuity in that because we all have different commitments at weekends. That's why it's been so good that you and crofter have been able to do the job for so long. I don't want it to end, but I don't want it to peter out messily either.
