Cowardice In The Face Of Bees . . .

I have an awful feeling that there may be a swarm of bees in my roof, but I can't face opening the trap-door to find out. There seem to be lots of bees buzzing round a particular part of the edge of the roof outside, and I am worried lest they have found a hole. I fear having thousands of bees rush out into the landing and bedrooms if I open up the loft.
I don't need to go up there, as I do not use the space to store stuff. It is heavily insulated, so I might not hear them buzzing anyway.
Any ideas ?

A pest control company?
Question Author
I shouldn't think a company would come out unless I was quite sure there were bees there. They wouldn't want a wasted journey.
You'll need to get them identified. I don't think pest control deals with bees. You might need to get hold of a local bee keeper.
You'd probably have to pay a call out fee. But it would be worth it for the reassurance

I don't think you are allowed to destroy Bees nowadays,I wasn't and they were under my Shed in the garden.
Most local beekeepers will deal with them just to maintain good relations with the public. If they can remove the entire nest they will but bees in roof spaces can be too inaccessible as the queen has to be caught. In this case they will be destroyed. You should determine whether they are bees or wasps ASAP. If bees are left to increase, the the wax of the honeycomb can soften in the summer heat(as if) and release large quantities of honey which can trickle through ceilings and wall cavities making a very difficult mess.
A good size bee's nest can contain upward of 50,000 bees.
Bees are NOT pests.
