anyone know where the phrase **** on comes from? as in exactly right or fitting perfectly. i'm sure it's not rude - maybe something to do with taps or stopcocks?

Perhaps it was used to mean 'target' in other activities, too. As a result, if something is said to be "male-bird on", it means exactly right or spot on. (I use male-bird as an acceptable substitute and deplore - yet again - the totally absurd censorship that necessitates its use.)
