I was asked what the history of this day is, being the third Monday after Easter. Anyone know anything about Rope Monday and its origins?

Rope Monday is another name for Hock Monday and was usually the second Monday after Easter Sunday...ie just 8 days later. The following day, Hock Tuesday, was a term-day on which farm rents and so on were paid. It, together with Michaelmas Day in September, marked the summer and winter halves of the countryside's year. From at least the 14th century, it was an important festival, where money was raised for the parish by various forms of fun and games.
So, have a heck of a day on April 24th, Scarletta!
