i'm guessing that that is the colour of the smoke when rubber burns, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise, after all when you throw fresh grass cuttings on a fire you don't get green smoke. Light a match and the smoke isn't red...

When an organic material, rubber, burns, it produces carbon particles - soot (and a load of other things) these are very small and will scatter, absorb and possible reflect the light giving the smoke a grey colour.
