I tested positive for this last year and was prescribed 2 lots of antibiotics and a double dose of a PPI. The symptoms returned and I had to do another test, well it looks like it's back (or never went in the first place) and I'm seeing the doc tomorrow. Does anyone know what is the likely treatment seeing as the last lot didn't work.

I would have thought that endoscopy would be the next "point of call."
Question Author
Noooooo :(

Thanks sqad.
As it is you.......somebody that i could "do business with"..;-) I might, just might, investigate your bug to see if it was resistant to your antibiotic treatment and if it was, then change to another antibiotic.

But an endoscopy would still be in my mind.
Question Author
Lol ;0)

Let's hope the doc will go with your way of thinking, I could really do without having an instrument put down my throat.
rocky.......as a matter of interest, what were your symptoms that made the diagnosis of H Pylori?
You have my sympathies
I had it for years without knowing
The prescription worked for me though

Sqad, last year I was suffering from a serious amount of acid reflux, it went on for weeks til I couldn't stand it anymore, the doc gave me PPI's and sent me for a blood test which came back positive for H. pylori. I was treated with Omeprazole, Clarythromicin (sp) and Metronidazole.

The acid started again after Xmas and gradually got worse and worse til I decided to go back to the docs said I'd have to do a stool sample (blood tests not accurate enough apparently). The surgery have said I need to see doc as something has flagged up on the sample, it was only tested for H. pylori as far as I know.
Question Author
Ric, my brother had the same symptoms and diagnosis as me, he still gets a bit of acid but not too much, they didn't retest him though.

Hopefully his has cleared up.
rocky....that is fine.....I just was interested.

Keep me informed.

Another combination of drugs may be prescribed.
Question Author
Will do, and fingers crossed for more drugs rather than an oscopy :)
Question Author
Sqad, a quick update.

Doc wants to treat it again with what I had before but increasing the dose of Clarithromycin. I'm a bit concerned it might return if it's resistant to these drugs but the doc said if it does then there will be further investigation.

Now I have a dry week ahead of me.

Thanks for your input yesterday :)
rocky......I think that is a very sensible approach and thanks for the feedback.
Question Author
You're very welcome. :)
Good luck Rocky
I'm sure they will get it sorted and you'll be fine x
Question Author
Thank you Ric, I really hope so. It's OK whilst I'm on the Omeprazole but if I'm not the acid reflux is unbearable, even water starts it off :(

Fingers crossed this increased dose of antibiotics will fix it, just got the dreaded thrush to look forward to now. Happy days!
Rocky...Marty has an ulcer. I'll bring some tabs next month xx Heartburn, thing of the past.
Question Author
Excellent x

Must book train NOW.
Try live yoghurt for the thrush (both top and bottom - if you know what I mean)
Question Author
Lol, yeah I know what you mean. I asked if I could take a diflucan just as the antibiotic course ended, but the dic said no, no,no. I'm actually going to eat live yoghurt for the next week but I imagine the meds are killing all the good stuff off regularly.
