Sainsburys Discount Coupons
10 Answers
Are Sainsburys discount coupons valid when buying wine and beers? It states on the coupon 'not valid when purchasing spirits and liquers, does wine and beer fall into this category, also on the reverse of the coupon it says, 'proof of age must be produced when using the coupon on age restricted items such as wine and beer!! Confusing or what? I have just been refused using this £6 discount coupon because I had 2 x bottles of wine in my shopping!

BTW, check out girl did say it was a new law brought in on 25th May.
Email reply from Sainsburys;
Following the introduction of the new legislation on 28 May 2014, no retailer is able to sell alcohol under the rate of duty price plus VAT. As a result of this, we have reviewed our promotions and made some changes to ensure we are compliant with the law. This means spirits and liqueurs will no longer be included in promotions in the same way that baby formula, fuel, stamps and tobacco are excluded. Customers will no longer earn Nectar points when buying spirits and liqueurs and, subsequently, any spend on these items will not contribute to the required spend to participate in marketing promotions and coupons.
We have communicated these changes by displaying an information poster instore and a page on our website. Our colleagues have been briefed and all of the affected coupons have had the following wording added to the front of them: “Excludes spirits and liqueurs, fuel and other excluded items, see over
We fully appreciate your concerns and have logged your feedback for the attention of our marketing team to take into careful consideration during future reviews''.
But, they have forgotten to say that on the reverse side it says; 'proof of age must be produced when using the coupon on age restricted items such as wine and beer!!

Update. After emailing them for a second time they've sent me a very nice reply stating that the wording in their T&Cs is not what it should be and my comments are going to be discussed at the next meeting of the 'vouchers and marketing team'! They have also credited my Nectar account with 1200 points, equal to the £6 for the voucher in question! Well done Sainsburys. :) Thanks everyone for thoughts and advice.
