Sadly if anyone tells you that the UK's DAB system has better sound than FM, they are lying. Far more stations have been crammed in than the system was designed for, and apart from BBC Radio 3 the sound of all DAB stations is much worse than FM if you have good reception. With DAB, data rates are so low that all of the high frequencies have to be filtered off, so the clarity and 'sparkle' to the sound are seriously impaired. And most DAB stations in London now broadcast in MONO, compared with the high quality stereo of FM and of all other modern music reproduction systems.
If you ever hear anyone claiming that DAB is always better than FM, ask them if they think it's better to have music in mono rather than in stereo. Radio over the internet has the potential to give much better sound quality, and it's quite likely most radio listening will be done using a system similar to this in the future. The UK's DAB system is obsolete, and has been rejected in most countries in favour of something better, such as DAB plus.
