Manchester Children Talking About Evacuation ..
I listened to this this morning. Manchester accents, but they sound so strange. Very sweet naive account of their thoughts on where they were evacuated! http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ archive /ww2out break/7 922.sht ml

The Beeb voice over sounds stranger -
air, pronounced ay-ar - as Heath was parodied when he was PM
happy pronounced happeh - as a true rhyme with frappe ( crushed ice )
and the content - within three days they had become latch-keys kids, and one asked if he could go out to play
nowadays - the parents lock their kids out to stop the thieving
and dont give a toss where the children are
