Windows 7 Gadgets Problem

I use Windows 7 on my PC. I like to have a number of Windows Gadgets on my desktop - clock calendar weather and currency. They have served me well for some time.
Just lately the clock went a bit odd with the hands not being in the centre. I couldn't find a solution to this. Now all of the gadgets except the calendar have fallen apart and the clock has vanished.
I've tried reinstalling them but to no effect.
Any suggestions?

Brilliant Methyl.
I've deleted IE11 and everything is back to normal.
Do need IE at all?

I already have Firefox and Chrome.
I use each browser simultaneously for my two names on eBay which allows me to have both sites open at the same time.
I have IE just as a standby.
Do you think it is necessary to reinstall a version on IE?
You can't uninstall IE but you can turn it off - go to the Control Panel, then Programs and on the lhs is Turn Windows features on or off and in the pop-up window IE is listed and you untick the box for it. Don't know if that will make a difference in your case.

Thanks bibblebub and jingejbee, both of your comments have been very interesting.
I think I will stick with my Gadgets after reading all the blurb.
One last thing - can I uninstall Microsoft Works without doing any damage?
