Do native Thais need a passport to fly internally, say from Bangkok to Koh Samui? Thanks for any help.

probably depends on the airline - it does in the UK - but may also depend on the political situation. Have a look at the website of the airline in question, as a start.

just contacted Bangkok Airways and they tell me that for domestic flights Thai nationals need only produce id cards and NOT a passport,
