Fair Competition Is That Giving It Away. Sky !

Sky have started giving their Broadband Service for FREE to new customers ,who have SKY SPORTS surely this makes all the other companies offers redundant .what obviously concerns me (being a SKY Customer} is that I will eventually in some way pay for this ,how can you give something away unless plans are already in place to recoup the money .Any thoughts.

No, not every body wants sky sports, I certainly don't! not everybody has Sky TV either.

That's assuming you watch sport regularly enough (which we assume you must do) to make it seem so obvious.

To me it seems like an expensive way to pay for broadband :)

"Bundling" as it is known has long been a contentious area - for example Microsoft killed off the superior web browser from Netscape (Navigator) by bundling IE free with their operating system.

Well, it could be, or it could be "totally unlimited" in only a few of several ways. It might be:

1. Unlimited usage - i.e. no data cap
2. Unlimited speed - i.e. they don't throttle the speed of your connection at 6pm-10pm when their premium customers want to use it.
3. Unlimited time of use - i.e. you can use it any time of the day.

of course this is all to do with BT as they made BT sports 1 & 2 plus ESPN available to BT Broadband customers then BT bought the right to show the Champions League & Europa Cup from 2015 for £879 Million which blew SKY out of the water so as a spoiler this new deal has been cooked up by SKY,still to be decided of course is how much BT will charge for the European games .I wonder what will happen when The English Football League,FA Cup etc comes up again for bidding come on AB Editor are you In at the moment it is just Me.Best Regards In A Mo

one of my old bosses has his own computer business and was with bt for years on an unlimited plan but they kept on slowing his connection down.

when virgin laid fibre optic cable down he was over the moon ( 50 mb here i come ) till he found out they were not coming down his cul de sac

he is now with another provider

I have BT it is Unlimited and Uncapped the speed is constant and I do check and compare with all the providers (yes I do have a lot of time on my hands)
None of the companies compare,some I must say I find it hard to understand how they survive in such a cut throat market place.

Not if Sky keep their existing customers, or gain more from BT or other providers, as that will be more revenue for Sky.

I think Sky have been hit hard by the BT "free BT Sport" broadband offer.

My son left Sky broadband and went to BT broadband purely so he could get BT Sport for free.

And remember the "free BT sport" offer was a big gamble for BT as they had paid millions for the football, and were now going to give it away.

They were just hoping that enough people would pay for their broadband to compensate for the loss of revenue from BT sport being free.

These companies have to make huge multi million gambles to try to stay in business and stay competitive.

To get Sky Sports you need a BT telephone line and not everyone has one - I haven't.

I have Sky sports and I am on Virgin for my telephone and broadband.

Waitrose had a similar issue with complaints from coffee shops when they started giving away coffee.
I've got sky sports because its in the bundle I chose...I never watch it and would not switch away from BT to get it. Equally I could have BT sport for free but why would I, I don't want it. Oddly not everyone (maybe not even the majority of people?) want to watch sport on TV

VHG - I will clarify. To qualify for the free sky broadband you need Sky Sports via Sky via a BT telephone line.
