Hello it's me again.
After all your help I have now mastered my tablet but on holiday in Greece last week I tried to access i player, 4OD etc and a message said something like ' out of area cannot access'

I could get my emails and search thru Bing problem so why could I not get i player etc? I got the news in written form thru BBC News and Channel 4 News but no video news or tv programmes. Is this because of the TV licence and the tablet showing that I was out of UK and using the hotreek free Wi-Fi? This seems unfair as I have a UK TV licence.

My tablet cannot accept a 3g dongle and anyway this would be too expensive). What can I do for my next holiday?

Someone in the hotel said there is a download of software which 'masks' the country you are using the tablet in, but I did not understand.

Thanks everyone

For licensing reasons most UK based TV companies can only show their programs in the UK.

If a computer, tablet or smartphone is shown to be outside the UK then UK based TV programs cant be shown.

While you say you have a TV license, how can they know?

If they let you watch the programs then anyone in Greece would be able to watch the programs.

To Access UK tv abroad, you would have to pay for it. There are sites you can subscribe to like Expats TV and the like. I have no idea how much it is but if its important you to see your programmes while on holiday then you might find somewhere to sign up to for a temporary subscription.

Thanks everyone. I have found a site now which is called 'tvaway.co.uk' and gives various packages for holidays and longer, ie. £6.99 for a month.

Yes methyl that is the one
It's also a Performing Rights issue.

People who make or appear in programming are rightly entitled to be paid more when it is broadcast overseas.

Therefore Overseas Territories are routinely excluded from contracts.
I agree with everybody above...its because you are abroad. If it was that easy to receive British TV in foreign parts, than Sqad and all the rest of the ex-pats wouldn't have to faff around with Sky dishes.

These are highly recommended. Very fast download times and live streaming feeds. I use it here in NZ.
