I hate people saying that to teenagers, ok maybe they wont be with that person forever and of course they will love agin, but surely there are few things in life more painful than having your heartbroken for the first time!
My boyfriend and I got together the first time when I was 15 (he was 16) we are now back together for the 4 time, I'm now 28.
Ive got three daughters, and I have sometimes felt like fitting a revolving front door!
mycatis is absolutely right - teenagers only have their won experience to go on, limited though that is. We as adults know that first heartbreak is a nat bite compared to what can happen, but to the teenager it really is the end of the world - and you sound like a cynical superior scrote laying on the "Plenty more fish ....." line.
I remember my middle daughter breaking her heart in my arms over a boy, and saying over and over again "It's just not fair ...." and me murmering "You're right, it isn't ...." Anything else would have been wasted words, and its not my version she wanted, it was my love, comfort and understanding, whcih I gave just by standing there.
