How To Set Up Scanner?

I have Canon Pixma 5300 scanner and I have HP laptop. I can print via wifi from laptop but I cannot get scanner to work.
On the Canon it does not seem to know the laptop is there....probably a blonde question but how can I get it set up please? I have tried google but the answers don't seem to fit. Thanks.

Have you installed the scanner software to your laptop?

errrrr -no. Why don't they tell you that you have to do these things! Have now installed something called MP Navigator EX Ver. 5.0.0 and it now works. You are a genius! Thanks!

Tells you on the Quick Install guide for the printer. "Insert CD" to install drivers.

No CD on my laptop......:-)
