Don't know when it came out Sandy but I was given the EOS (film SLR) new with 2 lenses about 6 years ago and it cost about £300.
Memory serves it was around £1100 body only at the time gorgeous camera sublime to use

Thank you both. My nephew has one among his possessions but he'll not be using it again. I was just wondering how much it had cost him. Whatever it was it would probably only be worth a fraction of the original price as film cameras seem to be considered old fashioned.
They do, in fact it's not that easy to get film developed these days. I ended up buying the EOS DSLR body because the lenses still fitted. It's all so much easier and instantaneous.
You can find places and the development cost is not onerous, I'll often throw a roll in my old EOS 1 and go out shooting. DSLRs are great and make the whole process simpler but something nice about shooting film
Here in the U.S., the EOS (body only)sold for $1050 in January of 1999. Canon stopped producing that model in 2007.
