Aldi Cashing In On Its Popularity?
13 Answers
I am a big fan of Aldi and can't fault the quality of their household goods such as dishwasher tablets and detergents but I think the prices are steadily rising, eg 45p for a tin of tomatoes, and the quality and shelf life of fresh fruit and veg is not what it was. The fruit and veg I buy is going 'off' within a day or two, even though it looks good at the time of purchase and I store it carefully.

I went in a couple of years ago and wasn't at all impressed. However, I was assured that since then they had got their act together. I didn't like it at all and I doubt I will be rushing back. I found that the prices were on a par with most supermarkets basic range, and the place was very untidy. I couldn't see what all the fuss was about, to be honest.
Aldi in Germany have a very good own label which doesn't seem to appear much in the UK. they stock cheap UK brands. Lidl have more of their own brand, Dulano, and I find them of a better quality. It was inevitable that once they established themselves as serious rivals to the big boys they would look to cash in by price increases and lower quality.
