Mobiles in Vegas

I am travelling to Vegas shortly and as it's such a rip off to use UK networks over there for phone, text and data, someone suggested getting an American Sim card and putting it in our phones... has anyone done this... does it work and any suggestions for decent networks?

if you download VIBER on your phone and Whats App (when you do this you will be texted a code) then your calls and text will be free or very very cheap if whoever you call or text has viber and whats app on their phone, i speak to my son in Australia all the time try it

Got a phone from Walmart for $9 ish. in Scottsdale Az. Brilliant. Wherever you phoned was measured in minutes NOT money so phoning England or Phoenix for 5 mins cost exactly the same. Just found it here - TracFone Samsung 105 P4 Prepaid Cell Phone Bundle $9 54c.
