We're close to Warwick by in a couple of weeks time. Rumour has it the castle is too commercial and over priced, would you agree? Or is it worth a visit?

Very commercial and quite expensive for what it is, but nice none the less.
I don't know when you are there but if it's this coming weekend then Tewkesbury ( which isn't a thousand miles away) have the biggest Medieval Festival in the world on and it's all free. I'm going, it's the best fun this side of 1485.Re-enactments, stuff to buy at the huge medieval market, great reasonably priced food, lots of people dressed authentically and Free.

We went some years back when the kids were about 10. At that time it was run by Tussaud's. Very expensive, but excellent in its balance of explaining a historic site with providing ways of engaging the kids. On the day we went, there was archery and such like. The site was kept immaculately clean, even to the extent of spraying bins where sticky lolly-papers had been thrown so as to keep down the wasps (it was a roasting hot day).
Very expensive to get in (unless you have the vouchers referred to above) - and very focused on extracting some more money from you once you're there (the gifte shoppe and sundry other 'retail opportunities' are carefully placed to entice children).
Having said that, it's a very well presented, entertaining and informative day out .
Kenilworth Castle (just up the road) is much cheaper and good fun if you like open air and ruins - nice walks around there too.
