One other suggestion. It depends on what version of Office you're using. My ancient, but still perfectly functioning thanks, copy of Office 2003 needs you to do this:
Start Menu
All Programs
Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office Tools
Microsoft Office Language Settings
Select English (UK) and click "Add"
In the right-hand box, select English (US) and click Remove.
Worth a try if you're still having problems.
