I guess you want the song gone completely off your computer

This may work.

If Itunes has a menu feature go to TOOLS then hopefully OPTIONS

you are looking to check a box that says DELETE MEDIA CONTENT FROM COMPUTER AND LIBRARY or words to that effect.

When I wish to delete a song from my computer via iTunes, I just hit "delete" and don't press the 'shift key'.

iTunes comes up with a dialogue box that offers 3 options - 'Cancel' - does nothing, - 'Move to recycle bin' - This removes the song from the library and deletes it, or 'Keep Files' - This removes the song from your library but does not delete the file from your computer.

Hope this helps. Although I just tried hitting Shift+delete (like you do) and I still get the three options. So there probably is a setting somewhere to bring these options up.

You could also just go to your iTunes folder (in My Music if you're using Windows XP) and delete the files from there.

Mouse: then the file would still be in iTunes, and would just report an error (you'd get an exclamation mark next to said song). The best way is as Headtime suggests.

Please help

might it be to do with the location of my saved music on the computer?
mkjuk: try upgrading to the latest version of iTunes.

http://www.apple.com/itunes

Re-installing it will do no harm (you won't lose any music), and should give you what you want.

Thanks but im already using the latest version
mkjuk, Are you sure are not pressing delete from with a playlist rather than the whole library? Deleting from a playlist just removes it from that playlist and not the Library.

no im in the whole library
Weird. I don't know I'm afraid. I would try reinstalling again. I know you have the latest version. But it might be worth it anyway.
