For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The problem is one of screen resolution. Your PC monitor uses many more pixels than your TV will, so you will only be able to view part of the full picture on your TV and my guess is you're viewing a portion of the screen without icons on it. If you drop your PC's screen resolution down to that of the TV (the TV's manual should tell you what it is) then you should be able to see the whole picture.
Also, if you're using Windows XP and Media Player 10, you may find that when you start playing a movie, it will appear full-screen on the TV without modifying the resolution. Depends upon your GFX card though I think.
