Oh that's good news .She's such a lovely dog and I couldn't understand why she had been abandoned .
Having said that though ,how can you forget that you have a dog with you !
Plus she was found zipped up in the tent .Something doesn't add up there .

The headline is a bit dramatic Mikey. I had vision of it being left on a train or something. The vials were found stored in a research centre and believed to be dead. Sounds like an accounting error rather than something of concern!

I might have got this wrong but I have always understood that the great danger with any release of smallpox is that people would have no resistance to the disease, and the results could be cataclysmic. Which is why it is kept in two highly secure establishments. I still think it is worrying that vials of smallpox were found outside of these two places.

No I can - I used to work at Porton Down,

The virus is unstable at room temperature and needs to be refrigerated....
so is probably inactive. You could check if it is viable, but I cant imagine anyone would. [ would infect a rat/mouse or even an chicken-egg.... ]

In terms of immunity it is a once off disease
cow pox cross reacts but you need lots of that ( which we dont have)

'epidemic' doesnt mean everyone gets it at the same time, Mikie
