Harling
The outside of my house is harled now some parts are coming away from the wall, with cement still attached to the outer surface. The actual harling material consists of what looks like crushed seashells. I am not sure what this is called. I only need a small amount but am finding it difficult to obtain it ,anybody have any suggestions I might get some (apart from going to the beach ) any advice would be most grateful. Thanks

I think you'll find that taking it from the beach isn't the problem, getting caught is the problem. ;-)

I know the one you mean, Nactel. Not something that's used today though.
Obviously a very "local" material. I think your only solution is to do what they did when it was built .............. get out your bucket & spade ;o)
A bit of a long shot ........... assuming you are near the sea, do they use sea-sand for building around there? It would be dredged, then unloaded at the quayside, and washed (to remove the salt). That might be a place to look ............... if there is one.
