Advice Needed Re Neighbour's Cat

Am feeding next door's cats while they are on holiday. One of them has developed a weepy eye which I assume is an infection as she can't open it properly. I think a trip to the vet and eye-drops would cure the problem, but should I contact the neighbour to tell them or wait till Saturday when they return? Don't want them to worry unduly or spoil their hols, but not sure how long it should go untreated.

If you're happy and able to do the trip to the vet, ask them. I wouldn't wait myself- and you don't want them coming home to a sick cat x

Bathe the eye with cotton wool damped with warm water ( if the cat will let you).

This may work and no visit to the vet will be required,hopefully.

It may be that you should take it to the vet but the cat might not want to go. Wrestling your own cat into a carrier is dangerous enough, but do you think that you will be able to do it?

If it doesn't get any better phone the vet - it may be something that moggie has had before .

Thanks for the suggestions. Don't think that she would let me bathe her eye as she is rather nervous at the best of times and doesn't even like being picked up! May phone the vet tomorrow if it looks worse.

I would ring the vet. It could be an infection, or an injury - or at worst, a symptom of cat flu.....

Personally I'd contact the neighbour and ask them what they would like you to do. That's what I'd expect those looking after my cats to do while I'm away. I'd certainly not want any eye problems left unchecked.

Try swopping her for a healthy one at the pet-shop.
